The Simple Guide To Creating Quality Content

What do I mean when I say “finding your voice” as a writer. This means different things to different people but the way I see it is being comfortable with yourself and your abilities to convey your knowledge in a way that makes it relevant and applicable to your readers.

This is what “content marketing” is all about. Developing your voice as a writer takes time, loads of practice and a sufficient amount of self-confidence to be successful. If you can master this skill you will be head and shoulders above your competition, I promise you.

So how does a small business owner find the time to develop as a writer and content creator when time, is a constant enemy?

Shape The Narrative With Quality Content

Time is a funny thing, isn’t it? We never seem to have enough when we need it or have too much when we don’t! Carving out time to create content admittedly is a low priority for many business owners simply because writing quality content takes time and there isn’t an immediate return on investment.

From a dollars and cents point of view, this decision makes complete sense. Focus on what is bringing in money right now, not what can happen in the future. If you take a step back for a moment, by not focusing on developing a proper voice to communicate effectively with customers, in the end, hurts your business and your brand.

In the absence of a robust and confident voice explaining your value proposition to consumers, your business image becomes muddled and distorted by outside forces. This loss of control of the narrative has real consequences too, especially when it comes to Yelp reviews! A study by Michael Luca from the Harvard Business School discovered that for every one-star increase in Yelp ratings leads to 5%-9% in revenue!

Shaping the narrative about your business is more important now than it has ever been before!

So now that you know that writing is just as important as managing the books, what can you do to develop your writer’s voice?

Finding Time To Create Quality Content

Easier said than done right?  You can accomplish anything that you want to with a little bit of planning. Step one to becoming a productive writer is to relax. When you are at peace with yourself and your environment, the words will flow out like water.

So do what you like to do to unwind before tappin’ the keys. Go for a walk, do some yoga, take a nap, read a book, etc.. to get in the “zone.” I’ll typically read a little before I start writing anything.

When you feel like you can get some writing done, open up your favorite word processor and start typing without regard to grammar or style. This is called “freewriting,” which is an effective way to get the creative juices flowing.

Here are a few distraction-free writing programs that you can use to help you focus on becoming a better writer.

Calmly Writer

Commit To Writing Quality Content

This is what separates average writers from expert writers. The more time that you put in using your creative energy to write, the better you will get at it. It’s as easy as that. If you can commit to writing at least 300-400 word articles for your website twice a week, you will soon be comfortable writing 600, 700, 1000+ words in-depth articles in no time!

Not only will posting quality well-written content educate your audience about your products,  it will also provide immense SEO benefits for your website as well!  The more you write, the more leads your business will generate!

Last but not least, make sure to have fun while you are writing! Don’t look at writing like a death sentence. Ultimately you are creating content that will help make life easier for your audience. If you have a question be sure to leave a comment or contact me
